The First Grant

The First Grant

The very first months of the foundation were highlighted by the awarding of its first ever study grant to Father Manuel Pintado, a historian specialising in the Portuguese presence in Malacca, territory conquered for the Portuguese crown in 1511 by Afonso de Albuquerque.

Twenty years on, the Foundation has awarded 738 grants to a host of different nationals setting about their research work, Master’s and Doctoral degrees, perfecting artistic abilities or for the study of Portuguese and Asian languages.
