The Forbidden City Comes to Lisbon

One of the highlights of the Foundation’s activity was the presentation in Lisbon of a vision of Chinese culture at the time of the court of the Qing dynasty emperors – The Forbidden City – Culture in the Court of the Chinese Emperors (1644-1911). Over 100 objects from the Palace Museum, in Beijing, the largest and most complete museum of China, were placed on display at the Ajuda Palace. The objects represented were carefully selected so as to best reflect the political system, beliefs and rituals, the lifestyles and the prevailing artistic interests of those periods. The various administrative and day to day aspects of life in the places were featured, including: audiences, wedding ceremonies and imperial anniversaries, banquets, clothing, weaponry and palatial hunting and other pastimes.
