Genealogy of the Macanese
Three volumes weighing in at 7.5 kg, 3,500 pages, 245 chapters, 250 photographs and 440 families registered and studied best summarises the work ‘Famílias Macaenses’ by Jorge Forjaz. The project had been carried out by the foundation in preparation for the over 1,200 Macaenese who turned up in Macao in 1996 for the 2nd Meeting of Macaense Communities. The product of over five years of uninterrupted work across several continents, the work itself is also a meeting place but on a far broader scale incorporating all Macaenese spread throughout their diaspora worldwide. This took place seven years on from the same author delivering his Luso-Descendents of Portuguese India to the foundation. This is a vast store of information on the origins of over 300 Portuguese families who settled along the west coast of India, in Goa, Daman and Diu, Baçaim and what is now Mumbai.
