Fundação Oriente Delegation in Goa

On the 27th April 2017, the Delegation of Fundação Oriente in Goa hosted the lecture The church of the Tertiary Carmelites of Goa: surveying an archaeological site by researcher Sidh Mendiratta (Portugal) and architect Fernando Velho (India).

This presentation was organized under the Conservation & Restoration of Cultural Heritage Programme that Fundação Oriente in India has been developing since 2011.

This edition of CRCH6 focused on the topographic study of the ruins of the XVII century Indo-Portuguese Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Chimbel, Goa, which was until now undocumented and is in complete ruin.

The process and result of this project as well as the historical importance of this heritage site were the focus of the presentation, which had as a central point the findings of its architectural history and archaeological information collected with geospatial mapping technology.

The historical importance of the building as well as the technology used were the main points of discussion among architects, historians and students present.
