Resembling the prize organized by our delegation in Macau, the Fundação Oriente delegation in India organized the second edition of the Fundação Oriente Visual Arts Award 2020 , between the months of June and December. This award main objective is to stimulate creativity in the field of visual arts and promote artists residing in Goa, offering them a platform to showcase their work and the opportunity to further their artistic education in Portugal.

The jury of the competition was composed by eminent individuals in the field of visual arts in Goa, namely Mr. Apurva Kulkarni (curator/educator), Ms. Lina Vincent (curator), Mr. Alok Johri (artist) and Ms. Isheta Salgaocar (Programmes adviser and patron, Sunaparanta Arts Centre) and Maria Inês Figueira (director of Fundação Oriente Delegation in India).

The Jury met 3 times between August and November and from a list of 103 works selected 19 art works eligible for the Prize and to be displayed in an exhibition to be organized by the Delegation. The Jury unanimously decided to award the Fundação Oriente Award for Visual Arts to the artist Girish Naik for the work Case, 1 (Gouache on paper, 2020) and two Honorable Mentions to the artists Divesh Gadekar and Anup Naik for their works Sounds of Nostalgia (sound installation, 2020) and Konge (Cement and fiberglass, 2020) respectively.

The awards ceremony took place on the 4th December, in the presence of the selected artists and members of the jury. The awarded artwork received a cash prize and the opportunity to participate in a one-month artistic residency at Casa da Cerca in Portugal in 2021. The two honourable mentions received a monetary prize.

The exhibition opened on the 5th December and will be open to the public until the 5th January 2021. The winning artwork will be integrated into the Delegation Art Collection.
